This is the most luxurious part of Hatton Garden with the most wonderful romantic history, going deep into the past --  AD 673, when the beautiful princess Etheldreda  built the magnificent church on the
ruins of the previous one, founded by the will of the St Augustine himself, but destroyed by war.
In the 1290 this church was rebuilt in her honour and to the present day bears her name.
The names of the poet William Shakespeare, artist El Greco and dozens of the Kings and Queens are connected with this place.
This hidden ancient gem is situated directly opposite Angelett Gallery windows and an amazing organ music from this church  flows through the open windows of the Gallery, as the music of History itself.

St. Etheldreda church at Ely Place is a former
private chapel of the Bishop of Ely.

In the middle of this ancient walkway is the charming pub Ye Olde Mitre - a unique example of historic heritage, built in 1546.

But on Sundays this pearl is closed.

Ely Place comes off Charterhouse Street, where the 'Diamond Palace' of De Beers shines in all its modern beauty of the
façade and
mysterious
passageways.
